Everything else is just passable enough save for some subpar editing for most of the film until the train ending which is pretty cool. The humor is very flat and sometimes cringe watching especially Douglas degrade himself simliar to DeNiro in Dirty Grandpa but this isn't anywhere as offensive or mindless. It's all surface level stuff and misses any opportunity for a tight story with commentary about the criminal system or seniors for slapstick and comedic skits. It truly feels like dumb comedic skits happen more than a story for 60% of the runtime. There is hardly any character development and half the time Douglas and Lancaster aren't even together. The love subplots and Wallach are pointless also. When it is focused at the end it's a half decent time. Unless your a DIE HARD fan of Douglas or Lancaster than skip this. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Friends for years, legends for life Can two old timer criminals still have what it takes decades later?Late Hollywood legends Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster co-star once again but this time as crooks It's true that times change, music has changed, women have changed, routines have changed but bank robbers Harry and Archie remain the same Both of them used to be criminals on top of their game but they've been imprisoned since 1956After being released in the '80s they feel so out of place Modern life is tough for their age so adjusting is next to impossible Even their old gang has become senile Dana Carvey acts as their parole officer but also being a big fan of their workHarry and Archie robbed a train worth $450,000 so getting back to what they specialize in is just what they do As far as everyone is concerned they're not ready for some good old' fashioned heistingSo they decide to rob the same locomotive that's about to retire after 50 years even getting their name back in the newsIt's true the system works the way it does but for Harry and Archie it's prolly itself that failed them Instead of giving them lives to live it told them what to do, where to live, how to behave, how to work Basically the system treated them like children and it wasn't fair For Harry and Archie they are living it up criminal style but loving it There's only one life to live that's the most familiar Lancaster and Douglas are so full of energy together in this and their friendship shows Sure these guys are seasoned but show so much love and respect for each other A fun ride for these two late, great Hollywood legends serves as a nice curtain call Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Ouch. What a disgraceful waste of two legends. This is a truly dire 'comedy' about a couple of old lags who have shared a cell for thirty years and find - guess what - the world has moved on. Where to begin? A piss-poor screenplay that should never have been greenlit, lumberingly slow direction, several overly broad performances, gags that are semaphored days in advance. The one saving grace is the central double-act: even in a turkey like this Lancaster and Douglas demonstrate class and grace.
